A violent confrontation at a Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar has left one person dead and multiple others injured. The incident began with a routine security check but escalated rapidly, culminating in deadly violence and injuries.
Shihab Kabir, a local shopkeeper from the nearby Samitipara area, was stopped by air force personnel for not wearing a helmet while riding his motorcycle. Kabir was escorted into the base for questioning, but a large group of local residents soon gathered in protest. As tensions rose, the crowd began throwing stones and other objects at the soldiers.
In an attempt to control the situation, military personnel fired warning shots, but the crowd continued to grow violent. The altercation quickly turned deadly when Kabir was shot during the clash. He later succumbed to his injuries. The military reported several injuries on both sides, although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.
The Bangladesh military issued a statement condemning the attack and blaming local “miscreants” for the violence. The ISPR insisted that the soldiers had acted to protect themselves and the base, stating that the attack was an unprovoked act of aggression. Local authorities have called for an immediate investigation into the incident, while security in the region has been heightened to prevent further unrest.
