Iconic Actor Dharmendra Passes Away at 89

Veteran Bollywood legend Dharmendra, fondly known as the He-Man of Indian Cinema, passed away on 24 November 2025 in Mumbai at the age of 89. His death marks the end of an era in Hindi cinema, leaving behind a legacy spanning more than six decades and over 300 films.

According to reports, Dharmendra had been unwell for several weeks and was under medical care before his health deteriorated. He breathed his last at his Mumbai residence, surrounded by family members.

Born in December 1935 in Punjab, Dharmendra rose from humble beginnings to become one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars. His charismatic screen presence, romantic charm and powerful action roles made him a household name across India. From timeless classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam and Phool Aur Patthar, he shaped multiple eras of Hindi cinema with unmatched versatility.

His influence extended beyond films Dharmendra also served as a Member of Parliament and received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, for his contribution to cinema.

Following the news of his passing, tributes poured in from celebrities, political leaders and fans worldwide. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior actors and the entire film fraternity expressed grief, calling his death an “irreparable loss” to Indian cinema.

Dharmendra is survived by his wife Hema Malini, sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. His funeral will be held in Mumbai with full industry attendance as the film world prepares to bid farewell to one of its greatest icons.

Dharmendra’s legacy lives on not just through his unforgettable films but through the generations of actors and filmmakers he inspired.
