Former diplomat and creator Navtej Sarna and famous Hindi creator Mamta Kalia are amongst 24 authors decided on for the 2025 Sahitya Akademi Awards throughout languages recognised through the Nationwide Academy of Letters.

 

The Akademi introduced the winners on Monday, months after a scheduled press convention in December 2025 to claim the awards used to be cancelled.

 

In a commentary, the Akademi mentioned the awards honour remarkable literary works throughout 24 Indian languages. “Sahitya Akademi is excited to announce nowadays its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 Indian languages recognised through it. 8 books of poetry, 4 novels, six books of quick tales, two essays, one literary complaint, one autobiography and two memoirs have received the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025,” the commentary mentioned.

 

Sarna has been selected for his novel Purple Spring, whilst Kalia will obtain the award for her memoir Jeete Jee Allahabad.

 

The awardees will obtain a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a scarf and a money prize of Rs 1 lakh at a rite scheduled to be hung on March 31, the Akademi mentioned.

 

Amongst different recipients, Prasun Bandyopadhyay has been honoured in Bengali for Shrestha Kabita, whilst Yogesh Vaidya won the award in Gujarati for Bhattkhadaki. Amresh Nugadoni used to be decided on in Kannada for Dada Seerisu Tande, and N Prabhakaran in Malayalam for Maayamanushyar.

In Marathi, the award is going to Raju Baviskar for Kalyanilya Resha, whilst Jinder has been recognised in Punjabi for Protection Equipment. Jitender Kumar Soni won the award in Rajasthani for Bharkhama, and Sa Tamilselvan in Tamil for Thamiz Sirukathaiyin Thadangal.

Different awardees come with Pritpal Singh Betab for Safar Jari Hai in Urdu, Nandini Sidha Reddy for Animesha in Telugu, Bhagwan Atlani for Waghoo in Sindhi and Sumitra Soren for Mid Birna Chenne Saon Inag Sagai in Santali.

 

In Sanskrit, Mahamahopadhyay Sahu Bhadreshdas used to be decided on for Prasthanacatustaye Brahmaghosah, whilst Girijakumar Baliyar Singh won the award in Odia for Padapurana. Prakash Bhattarai has been honoured in Nepali for Nepali Paramparik Sanskriti Ra Sabhyata Ko Dukuti, and Haobam Nalini in Manipuri for Kanglamdriba Eephut.

 

The once a year Sahitya Akademi Awards recognise remarkable literary contributions in languages recognised through the Akademi and are regarded as some of the maximum prestigious literary honours within the nation.
