Zelensky Urges Trump to Advocate for Ukraine’s Right to Defend Itself

In a direct appeal to former President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the American leader to use his platform to advocate for Ukraine’s right to defend itself against Russian aggression. As the war in Ukraine enters a new phase, with international calls for a ceasefire and peace talks growing louder, Zelensky has made it clear that Ukraine’s sovereignty must be respected above all else.

Zelensky’s comments come as Trump has suggested that a resolution to the conflict could be reached quickly if he were to re-enter office. However, Zelensky is emphasizing that any peace process must include full support for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself from Russia’s unprovoked invasion.

The Fight for Sovereignty

Since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Zelensky has been unwavering in his commitment to defend his country’s territorial integrity. His call for support from the U.S. is a reflection of the broader need for continued military assistance and international solidarity in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression.

“We cannot achieve peace if we are not strong enough to defend ourselves,” Zelensky said in a recent address. He also expressed concern that some peace proposals, including those that suggest territorial concessions, could undermine Ukraine’s position and lead to further destabilization in the region.

For Zelensky, the ability to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and he hopes that international leaders, including Trump, will recognize this in future peace talks.
