Sunny Deol Makes His OTT Debut with Netflix Action Thriller Ikka

The Netflix action thriller Ikka was officially unveiled on February 3, 2026, at a special event in Mumbai. With this project, Sunny Deol makes his OTT debut. The announcement has created a buzz on social media and among fans because Ikka reunites Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna for the first time in nearly three decades since their iconic war film Border (1997), though both leading actors were notably absent from the launch event.

The Plot

Ikka is based on an incorruptible senior lawyer, played by Sunny Deol, who finds himself in an impossible situation. He is compelled to defend a murder case against a man whose career he had previously ruined, played by Akshaye Khanna. The plot revolves around the protagonist’s struggle as he is ready to risk everything in order to win the case.

Expect some great ideological conflict between the two leading men, as well as plenty of unexpected twists, deep emotions, and some rather intense action. This series is described as being about a “father versus the devil” type of situation; there should be both courtroom drama and some big action scenes provided by this project.

The Cast

Ikka features an all-star supporting cast and is led by the two key stars Sunny Deol (who played Bhagat Singh) and Akshay Khanna (who starred in several films including one with Jackie Chan), plus: • Tillotama Shome • Dia Mirza • Sanjeeda Shaikh • Jyoti (probably Jyotika Subramaniam) • Tanushree Dutta The film is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, who has directed Maharaj on Netflix and the successful film Hichki. This will be the second Netflix original drama from Siddharth’s production company, and it shows that Netflix is focused on continuing the partnership with Siddharth and his filmmakers moving forward.

Production Timeline and Release

First announced in September 2025 as a large-scale Netflix original series (originally conceptualized as a remake adaptation of Death Sentence), Ikka began filming towards the end of 2025 in various locations across Mumbai and North India. Although Netflix has confirmed that the series will be available “soon,” no official release date has been announced yet, though a 2026 release seems imminent.

A first-look motion poster with the title “Gabru” has also been released on social media platforms, giving fans a sneak peek into the series’ tone and aesthetic.

Given Sunny Deol’s huge fan base and the nostalgia surrounding Akshaye Khanna’s return, Ikka is set to be one of the biggest releases on Netflix India this year.
