Sunil Thapa, a Nepali actor suffered cardiac arrest

Vetarn  Nepali actor Sunil Thapa passes away at the age of 68 on 6 Feb 2026 due to sudden heart failure in Kathmandu. He was rushed to Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, where an ECG at 7:44 AM confirmed his death.

Career

 Actor Sunil Thapa has been starred in over 300 films. He had done Bollywood, Tamil, Bhojpuri films as well often playing villain roles. His one of the most iconic character was Rate Kaila in the 1989 Nepali film Chino which made him so popular. His Bollywood debut was Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981) and he also earned a Filmfare nomination for Mary Kom (2014). His last film was Eklo.

Early Life

Thapa was born on May 19, 1960 (some sources say 1957) in Dhang, Nepal. He started modeling in 1974 in Mumbai. He also played professional football and worked as a photojournalist covering events like the 1974 Bhutan Coronation. He also served as the chairman of Everest Film Academy and appeared in TV series like Meri Bassai, The Family Man.

His death has shocked the entire Nepali cinema community and tributes have poured in from across the industry.
